Beauty is not about provocative dressing - Sandra

Sandra Uche Okagbue, a graduate of Linguistics and Foreign Languages from the University of Ibadan is a model
that is making waves in the Nigerian fashion industry today. The Anambra State indigene, who is the first of six children born to the royal family of the late Obi of Onitsha and the elder sister to the winner of Gulder Ultimate Search 8, Christopher Okagbube, in this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, speaks on her passion for modelling and her fashion preferences. Excerpts:

Foray into modelling

I have been in the fashion industry for a while now. I am not only a model, I am also a fashion freak. I love looking good and I guess that was what inspired the whole thing. I love cool but comfortable outfits. This is one of the things that motivated me into launching my fashion outlet ‘Desire,’ recently. I also see it as an avenue to showcase my enthusiasm for fashion and to show enlightenment as well as to create awareness of current fashion trends.

Challenges of modelling

Life itself is a challenge. Everyone has challenges. It all depends on how you manage them. I have had a few, but with the help of God and the support of my family and friends, I was able to overcome them.

Growing up

Growing up was fun. I grew up in a very respectable royal family. My dad was the Obi of Onitsha until his death.  My mum was a very strict disciplinarian. I looked up to her a lot and that turned me into the woman I am today, but it took a lot of determination and hard work, coupled with the fact that I had younger ones looking up to me to get to where I am today.

Description of self

Sandra is an easy going person, open minded and honest. I despise liars and people that are not honest. I guess that’s just me.

Definition of style

I believe style is the manner in which a person chooses to portray  herself. I believe in being positive in whatever I do in life.

Beauty regimen

Nothing extraordinary; I’m naturally blessed with a good skin and body. I wear very light make-up and simple hairdo, nothing special.

Favourite designers

My favourite designers are: Chanel; Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton, among others.

Favourite colours

I love blue to a fault. I think it is the right colour for me.

Choice of accessories

I’m not that much into accessories. I just go with small earrings and necklace.

Fashion items I cannot do without

My lip gloss is one thing that I cannot do without. It is so dear to me. I feel uncomfortable when I don’t apply it.

Secret of beauty

I believe that beauty is not just on the outside. True beauty is within. Look good at all times and always be yourself.

Keeping in shape

I work for at least one hour every day. I do road walks and jogging very early in the morning. Also, I don’t joke with what I eat.

Special treat

I love going on vacation, especially outside the country. I love going to the beach, nothing really special.

Most expensive fashion item in my wardrobe

My diamond Frank Muller wristwatch.

What I won’t be caught dead wearing

That should be bikini. I can’t dare it because It is not my choice. I think it is not good for me.

Opinion on toning and cosmetic surgery

I don’t believe in such things. I don’t understand why people can’t just leave themselves the way God created them. Everybody is beautiful in their own way and I strongly believe that these stuffs have side effects. I really don’t know, but the whole thing scares me. It’s not even healthy to start with.

On provocative dressing

I just love looking good and decent at all times. I don’t believe that dressing provocatively makes you more beawWutiful. Your dressing, I think, portrays who you are.

My greatest physical asset

My hips, I definitely know that I am wonderfully made and well endowed.

Coping with male admirers

I get a lot of them everywhere I go, but I learnt how to manage them. Most of them end up being my friends.
