Emily Wickersham, who was cast as NSA analyst Eleanor Bishop
on NCIS in September, has officially been promoted to series regular by CBS,
effectively replacing the outgoing Cote de Pablo. Wickersham's first episode
airs on November 19 though bosses have already bumped her up the cast list.
"Emily Wickersham's Ellie Bishop is proving to
perfectly compliment the NCIS team," said executive producer Gary Glasberg
in a statement. "Her energy and enthusiasm is contagious. Great things are planned for Bishop and we
couldn't be more thrilled to have her on-board."
The actress was originally slated for just three episodes
though early filming was enough to convince producers that Wickersham has the
on-screen presence to replace the charismatic de Pablo, who stunned show bosses
by turning down "a lot of money" to remain on the crime-drama.
Described as "a mysterious mixture of analytic
brilliance, fierce determination and idealism," Emily's character will be
introduced when it is discovered that the Secretary of the Navy was bugged
during a confidential briefing, a security breach Bishop described in exact
detail two years ago in a threat analysis report, according to Entertainment
Weekly.
Early this year, actor Michael Weatherly said of
Wickersham's arrival, "We're excited about is having Emily join us on
these little adventures we do every week and seeing how she is in the world
that we create together.I hope the audience likes her as much as we did right
away," he said.
So who the hell is Wickersham? Well, fans of high class TV
drama might know her best as Rhiannon Flammer, the girlfriend of A.J Soprano on
The Sopranos. She also appeared on the short-lived but excellent Bored to Death
and the movies I Am Number Four and Remember Me.
