Kanye West's Shoe Is Worth $16 Million

Kanye West's new shoe, the Air Yeezy 2 "Red October" is quite the success. Released on February 9th at 1 PM without any fanfare—just a single tweet by Nike—the shoe sold out completely within 11 minutes. 11 minutes! That's barely enough time for most people to find their wallet, let alone successfully purchase a pair of luminous red tennis shoes.

So what do you do if you missed your blink of a chance? Why head to Ebay of course. Less than a day after the initial sale, a pair of the shoes, which retail for $245 dollars, was already up for bidding on the site. The present bid? 10,000,000 Pounds. That is 16 Million Dollars—enough money to buy a Ferrari, smash it into a wall, replace it, and then smash it again, more than a dozen times!

The Nike Air Yeezy is an official sneaker collaboration project between shoemaker Nike and American rapper Kanye West. Nike's Red October version of the Air Yeezy 2 were marred in controversy and anticipation has been high since last year. Nike's exact plans to release the shoe were unclear, even to Kanye himself and when 'Ye signed on with Adidas the future of these kicks became even more unsure.

To suddenly release the Red Octobers on the eve of The College Dropout's 10-year anniversary was a great move on Nike's part. The unexpected release, couple with the $245 price tag, raises the level of exclusivity. Because Kanye is no longer with Nike and now signed on with Adidas, I doubt we will be seeing him wearing or promoting the Red Octobers.
