Nigerians Abroad: Emenike Scores In The Russian League And Moses Scores In Friendly For Chelsea

Nigerians Abroad: Emenike scores in the Russian league and Moses scores in friendly for Chelsea

There is the case of mixed fortunes for our strikers in Russia and Ukraine, while one is making a
strong return after an injury spell, the other has been relegated to the bench.

Victor Moses played another 45 minutes for Chelsea against the Malaysia XI on Sunday as the London club won 4-1. The Nigeria international came on in the second half of the match and scored in the 87th minute of the game.

Mikel Obi and Kenneth Omeruo are expected to join up with the Chelsea squad on Thursday as the pre-season preparations enter the second phase with all players who had been given extended holidays all expected to finally join the squad.

Emmanuel Emenike announced his full return to fitness on Sunday when he scored his first league goal in Spartak Moscow’s 2-0 away victory over Ural to make it two wins out of two. Emenike came on for Yura Movsisyan in the 63rd minute and scored in the 90th to complete Spartacus’ win. It was Emenike’s first league goal since November 30, 2012.

CSKA Moscow will play their second league game on Monday after drawing their opening match 2-2 last Tuesday away to Ural.

Ahmed Musa opened his league account for the defending champions in that match. Musa scored the first goal of that encounter.

For the second week running, Brown Ideye was relegated to the bench and the player that has taken his place, DRC striker Dieumerci Mbokani justified his start with two goals in a minute to help Dynamo Moscow to a 2-1 away win over Hoverla. It was the third goal for the Congolese striker in two league games.

Lukman Haruna assisted the second goal in the 40th minute.

Ideye had been expected to move to Western Europe at the end of last season but the Nigerian has seen his rating fall in the summer transfer window.

The transfer of Michael Eneramo to Besiktas is hanging in the balance after he underwent surgery on his right knee and is now expected to be out of action for upwards of four weeks.

He initially had a challenge with his first medical which he failed but passed a second though there have been doubts raised as concerning an irregular heart beat.

Joseph Akpala scored for Werder Bremen in their 3-2 loss to Ajax on Saturday. The Super Eagles striker will be aiming to earn a starting berth in the new season as he spent all of last season coming off the bench. Akpala scored one league goal in the 2012/13 season.
