John Okafor Tasks FG On Film Village

                 John Okafor

Okafor made the call in an interview with the journalists  in Port Harcourt.
He said it was disheartening for the industry to continue to hold its meetings and conferences in hotels because of lack of a befitting secretariat.

Okafor, also known in the Nollywood industry as 'Mr Ibu', said that movie making was constantly exposed to delays and piracy due to lack of a film village.
"We need a film village so we can thrive like the Hollywood and Bollywood," he said.
He said movie producers were ready to source for sponsors who would build a film village when the land was provided.

"I’m calling on the Federal Government to please give us a film village and we shall get sponsors to build structures and provide equipment for us.
Nollywood is part of the government because we pay dues to the Censors Board, we pay as much as N50,000 to the Federal Government to censor one film.
"This means, if we produce up to 100 films per month, we shall approximately pay up to N5 million to the Federal Government.''

Okafor also decried the activities of pirates who take advantage of the deficiencies in the industry to enrich themselves.
"You could be on location shooting a movie, but before the end of that work, the movie is already on sale in the local markets.
"Pirates are busy waiting for us to toil and come up with something good for them," he said.
