Manchester United Opens Talks With Everton Over £23m Fellaini As Fabregas Hopes Fade
Manchester United are set to make Marouane Fellaini new manager David Moyes' first major signing. Sportsmail understands Old Trafford chiefs have opened talks with their Everton counterparts over a big money swoop.
The clause that allowed the Belgian to leave Goodison Park for a Champions League club should Everton receive a formal offer of £23million has expired, so United are currently in the midst of trying to negotiate the lowest possible fee for the player. And there is a growing confidence at Old Trafford that Fellaini, who wants at least £100,000-per-week at his next club, will become Moyes first significant signing.
Fellaini would jump at the chance to follow former Toffees boss to Old Trafford. The move comes after United admitted defeat in their attempts to land Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.
The former Arsenal star was Moyes' top target, but the Spaniard is determined to spend at least one more season in Catalonia.
Meanwhile, it is understood United still retain an interest in Leighton Baines having seen one offer turned down by Everton earlier this summer.
