The apex Islamic body in Nigeria, National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, has called on the United Nations to intervene in the protracted crisis in Egypt and find “an instant, amicable, just and sustainable solution to the unfolding unfortunate episode in that country.
In a release signed by its Secretary General, Professor Is’haq Oloyede, NSCIA said there should be a constitution of an independent electoral agency under the supervision of the United Nations to look into the situation.
According to the release, ”All Nations of conscience should prevail on the United Nations to intervene decisively and find an instant, amicable, just and sustainable solution to the unfolding unfortunate episode in Egypt”.
“It is unfortunate that both the Arab League and the OIC have lost an independent voice to be positively helpful to Egypt at this point when truth, impartiality and frankness are required of the International Community”.
The NSCIA also called for cessation of hostilities in Egypt and unconditional release of President Mursi and all other political detainees in the crisis-ridden country.
