Rainstorm Destroys Houses In Katsina

                    flood

A heavy downfall on Monday destroyed many structures in Bakori and Danja Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Katsina State.
Our reporter gathered that the affected structures were mostly mud houses and some public schools.

Alhaji Tijjani Lawal, the Transition Committee Chairman of Danja Local Government, told newsmen that relief materials would soon be distributed to the affected victims.

Lawal however recalled that the LGA had experienced a similar incident in 2012.

"A committee has been constituted to assess the extent of the damage," he said.

In Bakori, the council’s Transition Committee Chairman, Alhaji Mansur Rabi’u-Banki, described the incident as unexpected.

Rabi’u-Banki cautioned the people against indiscriminate refuse disposal, as well as the blocking of waterways.

He appealed to state and federal governments for urgent intervention.

The chairman urged the residents to refrain from indiscriminate felling of trees.

"We all need to plant more trees to check desertification," he said.
