10 Reasons Why Dr Bassey Enya Should Be AMLSN National President

Here are 10 verifiable facts and reasons why you should not have a second thought on who to cast your vote for. Dr Bassey Enya is the right man to lead AMLSN to limelight and greener pastures.

1. As former FCT Branch Chairman, Dr Bassey Enya assiduously fought for the rapid expansion of Medical Laboratory services from three major hospitals in FCT; Garki, Wuse and National Assembly Clinic to over 10 hospitals.

2. Through well written correspondences, several purposeful calls to the right quarters and authorities, brilliant on-the-spot presentations and vigorous follow ups, he incessantly pushed to see that Medical Laboratory Scientists are accorded their rights and privileges in the country.

3. He spearheaded the fight for the creation of Diagnostic Division in the FCTA with a Deputy Director (Medical Laboratory Services) to further ensure that Medical Laboratory Scientists have a voice in matters concerning them in the country.

4. He successfully hosted two Annual Scientific Conferences in 2000 and 2004 (while he was FCT Chairman) and was able to pay in full 25% of the total revenue accruing to the conference to the National Association as stipulated in the constitution as amended.

5. He purchased a piece of land in FCT (while he was FCT Chairman) which he willingly donated to the National body of the association to serve a larger interest.

6. During his tenure as FCT Chairman, he initiated the memo that stopped the employment of non Medical Laboratory Scientists by the Supreme Court, Federal Road Safety Corps and defending the cause of Medical Laboratory Scientists before the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

7. As President of this great association, he pledges: "My pledge is to dedicate my time, energy and resources towards building an institution that would be formidable, an Institution that would stand and be counted; one that will face the challenges of the 21st century and bring about positive reforms in the health sector. I will work assiduously in six thematic areas of Legislation, Income Generation, Establishment Matters, Job Creation for Young Scientists, Social-Welfare Services, Public Relations, Capacity Building and Training.”

8. He promises to follow the footsteps of his predecessors in ‘protecting the profession from external aggression’ as well as fostering the growth of the Association. He said, “In truth, the development of medical laboratory science is still a work in progress and we are challenged everyday to keep building in spite of the various obstacles that we face. Our strength has been in the quality of leadership in the past years; from Prof. Dr Agbonlahor, Dr. NN Shidali, Prof. A.O Emeribe, Prof. M.F Useh, and Mr. R. Manason to Dr. G.C Okara. These were great men who adequately protected the profession from external aggression. In the past 22 years, I have systematically and deliberately build my capacity under the tutelage of Professor A.O Emeribe and Professor M.F Useh, as Branch Chair of FCT. I also had the opportunity of working under Dr. N.N Shidali. I will by the grace of GOD work hard to make a proud son; work hard to surpass previous achievements".

9. He will be a pillar of support and improve Private Medical Laboratory Scientists/practitioners in the country. In his words, "In order to improve the lot of the private practitioners, I am promising to work assiduously for the FULL implementation of the NHIS Law (Act 1999) for the financial empowerment of members and Laboratory Infrastructure and system IMPROVEMENT".

10. He is young, vibrant, hardworking, dogged, down to earth and a man of the people.

Dr. Enya is a born leader with true leadership running in his veins. He is a motivator, a go-getter and one of the best in this humble profession. With all he has learnt from his predecessors, permit me to categorically state that, he is the BEST for this position.

All members of AMLSN and all Private Medical Laboratory Scientists/practitioners, DR BASSEY ENYA is that liberator you have long waited for, the man who has your best interest at heart. He is your man, go on and cast your votes; your vote for him as AMLSN National President is a surety for our better tomorrow.
